Course Topics & Detailed Curriculum

Our POSH Trainer Certification Program is designed to provide professionals with comprehensive knowledge of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, 2013 and the practical skills required to deliver effective training programs within organisations. The course covers legal foundations, workplace behaviour understanding, inquiry procedures, and the methodology for conducting impactful training sessions.

Introduction to the POSH Act, 2013

This module provides a foundational understanding of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. Participants will learn about the historical background of the law, including the landmark Vishaka Guidelines that led to the formation of the Act. The session explains the objective of the legislation, its scope, and why organisations must implement it effectively. It also discusses the importance of workplace safety, dignity, and equality, helping participants understand the broader social and legal context of the Act.

Understanding Workplace Sexual Harassment

This module focuses on identifying and understanding what constitutes sexual harassment in the workplace. Participants will explore different forms of harassment, including physical, verbal, non-verbal, and digital misconduct. The training explains the difference between quid pro quo harassment and hostile work environment situations through practical examples. Real-life workplace scenarios are discussed to help participants recognise subtle behaviours that may amount to harassment and understand how such situations impact employees and organisational culture.

Scope of Workplace and Coverage under the POSH Act

This topic explains how the law defines a “workplace” and who is protected under the POSH Act. Participants will learn that the Act covers not only traditional office spaces but also work-from-home environments, business travel, client locations, and virtual workspaces. The module also clarifies who qualifies as an employee under the Act, including interns, contractual workers, consultants, and trainees. Understanding the wide scope of the Act helps trainers explain its relevance across modern work environments.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Employer

In this module, participants will understand the legal obligations placed on employers under the POSH Act. The training explains the employer’s duty to create a safe working environment, establish an Internal Committee, conduct regular awareness programs, and maintain compliance documentation. Participants will also learn about penalties and legal consequences of non-compliance. This section helps future trainers guide organisations in fulfilling their statutory responsibilities effectively.

Internal Committee (IC) Structure and Functions

This module provides a detailed understanding of the Internal Committee, which is the core mechanism for handling complaints under the POSH Act. Participants will learn how the committee should be constituted, the eligibility and role of the Presiding Officer, and the importance of including an external member. The session also explains the powers and responsibilities of the committee, confidentiality requirements, and the importance of neutrality and fairness during proceedings.

Complaint Handling and Inquiry Process

This module focuses on the procedural aspects of handling complaints. Participants will learn the step-by-step process followed by the Internal Committee once a complaint is received. The session covers filing of complaints, timelines, preliminary assessment, investigation procedures, and documentation practices. Special emphasis is placed on ensuring that the process follows principles of natural justice and fairness, protecting the rights of both the complainant and the respondent.

Evidence Evaluation and Report Writing

In this module, participants are trained on how evidence should be evaluated during inquiry proceedings. The session explains different forms of evidence, including written statements, digital communication, witness testimonies, and documentary records. Participants will also learn how to structure an inquiry report, present findings objectively, and draft recommendations for the employer. Proper documentation and report writing are essential for ensuring that the inquiry findings are legally sound.

POSH Compliance and Organisational Policies

This module focuses on compliance requirements that organisations must follow under the POSH Act. Participants will learn how to develop or review a POSH policy, maintain records of complaints, prepare annual reports, and conduct periodic awareness sessions. The training also discusses the importance of integrating POSH policies within broader workplace ethics frameworks. Trainers will learn how to guide organisations in building sustainable compliance systems.

Delivering Effective POSH Training

This module is designed to equip participants with practical training and facilitation skills. Participants will learn how to design training sessions for employees, managers, and Internal Committee members. The session covers presentation techniques, structuring training modules, using case studies, encouraging interaction, and addressing sensitive questions. The objective is to help participants deliver engaging and impactful training sessions that promote awareness and behavioural change.

Professional Ethics and Confidentiality

The final module focuses on the ethical responsibilities of POSH trainers and professionals working in this field. Participants will understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality, respecting privacy, and handling sensitive information responsibly. The session also highlights professional boundaries, neutrality during discussions, and the importance of creating a safe environment for participants during training sessions.
